Wansu Kata is believed to be over 300 years old in its earliest form and named after a Chinese martial artist, Wanshu, who taught the techniques. Master Shimabuku learned it from his Shorin-ryu teachers and adopted it into Isshin-ryu with some modifications.
This is a fast and graceful kata and students will be introduced to slipping punches, grabbing techniques, blade kicks and the signature throw that gives this kata its name of "the dumping form." This is the fourth of the formal hand kata learned by a student.
